Top Things to do in Fajardo This Fall

Here at the Fajardo Inn, we work hard to stay up-to-date on the latest and greatest things to in Fajardo. We’ve already highlighted beaches to visit and restaurants to try. Now, let’s take a look at site-seeing and island excursions.

Below are our top recommendations for a fall, fun, island experience.

Top Things to do in Fajardo This Year

Icacos Island

Icacos Island is an ideal spot to enjoy peace and quiet while overlooking a beautiful shoreline. Here, coral reefs are abuzz with tropical sea life. There’s no shortage of colorful fish and stingrays. It’s easy to get to by catamaran, which is a great option for large groups. Or, you can buy tickets to visit by boat.

Las Cabezas de San Juan Nature Reserve

This gorgeous nature reserve is most easily accessed by boat from Las Croabas. Comprised of 10 small islands, Las Cabezas is home to natural wonders of land and sea. The archipelago is surrounded by coral reefs that are home to a variety of marine life, including sea turtles that lay their eggs in the sand. The historic Faro de Las Cabezas de San Juan lighthouse is also located in the reserve.

Faro de Las Cabezas de San Juan

This historic lighthouse was first made operational in the late 19th century. It was a major player during the Battle of Fajardo in the Spanish-American war. Located on Las Cabezas Nature Reserve, it’s situated among beautiful and rare plants and flowers, Bioluminescent Bay, and a research center. Here, visitors can enjoy seven different eco-systems including beaches, lagoons, dry forests, coral reefs, and mangroves. Exploring Faro de Ls Cabezas is easy due to the many boardwalks and trails that wind through the preserve.

Culebrita Lighthouse

Looking for more lighthouse fun? visit Culebrita Lighthouse. Here, you’ll find beautiful Spanish-style windows and stunning mosaic floors. Construction was completed 1886 and the structure remains the most eastern light outside of Puerto Rico’s mainland. Hiking to Culebrita can be a bit strenuous – we suggest bringing a lot of water. But the views are worth the trek.

La Estación

La Estacion is a converted gas station that serves delicious food such as skirt steak, seafood, and vegetables. Reminiscent of an artist’s loft, La Estación offers a 4WD dashboard bar, patio bar, and open-air dining with hanging vintage bicycles. Check for seasonal specials. Mains come served on heavy wooden pedestals, with delicious sauces and a one-of-a-kind passion-fruit salad dressing.
