Top Things To Do In Fajardo This Year

Icacos Island

Icacos Island is the perfect spot to enjoy peace, quiet and beautiful scenery during your next trip to Puerto Rico. Here, the coral reefs thrive with beautiful sea life. There’s no shortage of tropical fish and stingrays. It’s easy to get to by catamaran – a great option for large groups – or you can buy tickets to visit via boat.

Las Cabezas de San Juan Nature Reserve

Las Cabezas de San Juan Nature Reserve is best accessed by boat from Las Croabas. Made up of 10 small islands, the reserve is home to natural wonders both on land and in the water. The chain of islands is surrounded by coral reefs that are home to a variety of marine life, including sea turtles that lay their eggs here each year. The historic Faro de Las Cabezas de San Juan lighthouse is also located in the reserve.

Faro de Las Cabezas de San Juan

This lighthouse was first made operational in 1882. It played a major role in the Battle of Fajardo in 1898 during the Spanish-American war. Located on the reserve, today it’s situated among beautiful and rare plants and flowers, bioluminescent bay, and a research center. Exploring Faro de Ls Cabezas is easy thanks to the many boardwalks and trails throughout the preserve. Here, there are seven different eco-systems including beaches, lagoons, dry forests, coral reefs, and mangroves.

Culebrita Lighthouse

For more lighthouse fun, visit Culebrita Lighthouse. Inside, you’ll find beautiful Spanish-style windows and stunning mosaic floors. Construction of the lighthouse ran from 1882 to 1886 and the structure remains the most eastern light outside of Puerto Rico’s mainland. The hike can be bit strenuous and requires you to drink a lot of water, but the views are absolutely worth the trek. Currently, the lighthouse is undergoing repairs but it’s still open to the public.

La Estación

La Estacion is a converted gas station that serves creative fare like delicious skirt steak, seafood, and vegetables. Reminiscent of an artist’s loft, The Station features a 4WD dashboard bar patio bar and open-air dining room with hanging vintage bicycles. It’s fun. Watch for seasonal specials. Mains come served on heavy wooden pedestals, with delicious sauces and an eye-fluttering passion-fruit salad dressing.
