Now that the New Year is here, it is time to come up with those resolutions. Ditch the typical resolutions of diet and exercise and improve yourself with a resolution of travel. There is a whole world out there waiting for you so make 2017 the year you remove yourself from your small corner of the world and get out there. Here are 5 travel resolutions you can make right now:
- Take more than one trip
Taking a nice long vacation can be wonderful and much needed. Two weeks to escape your regular life is a great way to reenergize and create excitement. The downside however is that a long vacation may keep you from taking other trips throughout the year. Planning several shorter trips spread out over the year can keep your spirit refreshed all year long. Visiting somewhere like Puerto Rico is a great start to taking multiple trips this year. In as little as a two hour flight, you can be whisked away to a Caribbean paradise. You don’t have to spend an entire day traveling to have an amazing getaway.
- Simplify travel
Traveling can be hard and even stressful. Added stress defeats the purpose of leisure travel. Bringing too many personal items with you can really add to the stress. Hauling suitcases and other possessions through airports and cabs or rental cars can be tough to manage. Resolve to simplify travel for yourself instead of piling a bunch of stuff in your suitcases. Analyze what you really need to bring with you and decide what extra gear that can be left behind. Pairing down will make your travel experience less stressful and ditch those extra bags. To help keep things simple for your trip to Puerto Rico, we’ve got a packing list for you. But remember, if you don’t have something with you, you may be able to get it here on the island.
- Resolve to use your vacation time
Did you know that in 2015, 55% of Americans reported that they had unused vacation days? Unused often means wasted. Don’t throw those hard earned vacation days in the trash this year. Those days are part of your salary package, so don’t let them go to waste. Put down the shame of taking time off and give yourself a break by using your time off.
- Go somewhere new
Vacationing in the same places over and over is still a great way to get away, but resolve to go somewhere new this year. That doesn’t mean you have to forget about your favorite vacation spot, but you may find new favorites by expanding your horizons. While you are at it, maybe even plan activities and adventures that you might not normally consider. How about a zip line ride through the rainforest or a night time kayak tour in the glowing Bioluminescent Bay?
- Travel with Family
Many of our limited vacations throughout the year are used to visit extended family members wherever they live. Think about skipping a repeated visit to their house and invite them to travel with you somewhere else this year. Create new memories with your loved ones like never before. Look for vacation packages that accommodate traveling with larger groups of people to help keep things simple.
Resolve to rethink your travel this year and make it the best one yet. Happy New Year from all of us at Fajardo Inn!
