Exciting Fajardo Activities
The National Forest is one of the better places to begin looking for wildlife in Puerto Rico: as the only tropical rainforest in the United States, El Yunque hosts several species of birds endemic to Puerto Rico, and others stopping by as part of their migration south. It's easy to have a great afternoon bird watching here: over 24 miles of rainforest trails wind throughout the park. Keep a look out for parrots in particular: the Hispaniolan and Orange Crowned parrots are found in many places throughout the island. Tiny Coqui frogs, iguanas, lizards and sea turtles can also be found in the area!
At only 46 minutes by car from the Fajardo Inn Resort, there's no reason why you shouldn't make El Yunque and its wildlife a part of your next visit to Puerto Rico. If you prefer not to visit alone, several tour guide companies are available for your convenience! Louie's VIP Tours has been highly rated on TripAdvisor. Other companies like Eco Action Tours and Fine Line Excursions can also take you there. Don't forget to ask about kayaking in the neon-blue bioluminescence of the Viequez shore!
